Bay Area Intactivists: AB 768 Public Hearing

Event Dates: August 23, 2011 - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

The first (and if we prevail, the only) public hearing on AB 768 will be next Tuesday, August 23 in room 112 of the State Capitol Building in Sacramento at next week's meeting of the California Senate Judiciary Committee. The room opens at 1:30 and the meeting starts at 2:30 pm. The hearing is open to the public. There are no advance sign-up sheets or speaker cards. This entire meeting will be devoted to AB 768. The hearing could last anywhere from 2 minutes to 3 hours.

First the bill's author, Mike Gatto, will read the text of the bill aloud. Then the proponents get to speak. Following that, the opponents (intactivists) get to speak. The Chair will ask speakers to not repeat points made by earlier speakers. Normally each person who wants to speak gets 2 minutes. If we have a large number of people, the Chair will ask for just a few people to speak, but the rest can stand up and give their name and affiliation for the record. Then the 5-member committee votes. If they vote Yes, then it is passed to the entire California Senate. If they vote No, it's over.

Some members of Bay Area Intactivists will be traveling from the SF Bay area to Sacramento to speak at the hearing. If you would like to join us, please contact Tina Kimmel at bayareaintactivists@motherlove.org.
