Dothan NOCIRC at the Miles for Midwives "Healthy Family Fun Day" in Dothan, Alabama

Event Date: November 16, 2013 - 11:45am - 2:00pm
Dothan NOCIRC

Dothan NOCIRC will be distributing information at the upcoming Miles for Midwives "Healthy Family Fun Day" in Dothan, Alabama on Nov. 16 at Walton Park. We will be handing out NOCIRC pamphlets and other materials as well as answering questions and addressing concerns. Our booth will be located inside the gymnasium. We hope anyone in the southeastern area of the state will come out and show support for intactivism and midwifery.

Every year, the Alabama Birth Coalition hosts it's Miles for Midwives fundraiser. This event is intended to raise awareness and support for access to out-of-hospital midwives in Alabama. Under current Alabama law, midwives are not permitted to attend out-of-hospital births. This leaves mothers with limited birthing options. As a result, many mothers who desire a natural, gentle birth experience have to attempt a such a birth in the hospital setting, drive to birth centers across state lines (namely in TN and FL), hire a midwife who operates illegally, or birth unassisted. The Alabama Birth Coalition is working to change Alabama law so that mothers have access to the birthing options they deserve. This year's event will be held in 14 different locations across the state, with intactivist booths being present at both the Hunstville and Dothan locations. For anyone interested in hosting a booth at other locations, you can get a table for a contribution of only $50 (or less, depending on location).
